Housing Rehabilitation Projects

The Northern Neck Planning District Commission (NNPDC) assists the region’s counties and towns with planning efforts for the rehabilitation of housing units that do not meet the standards of the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.

Planning grants are then followed by full Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications for the implementation of the projects addressed in the planning grants. These are some examples of such projects:

Greentown/Gaskins Road

The NNPDC worked with Lancaster County in the implementation of a comprehensive community-improvement plan that included the installation of wastewater infrastructure and the rehabilitation and/or substantial reconstruction of 43 homes in the Greentown area.

White Stone

The Town of White Stone was awarded CDBG funding in 2015 for a comprehensive community project that includes the installation of wastewater infrastructure in sections of White Stone, as well as the rehabilitation and/or substantial reconstruction of 15 homes in the project area.

Light Street

Northumberland County received funding from the CDBG program for the rehabilitation and/or substantial reconstruction of 14 substandard homes, plus the removal of 8 blighted and vacant structures in the neighborhood along Route 610 (Light Street Road). The project was completed in 2015.
