The Northern Neck National Heritage Area was officially designated on January 5, 2023.

The Northern Neck National Heritage Area Management Plan establishes the regional context, articulates the nationally significant heritage of the Northern Neck and its people, and offers guidance for stewarding the region’s cultural, historic, natural, recreational, and scenic resources.

The plan also highlights the united network of partners across the region and their different areas of interest. The network includes local governments, nonprofit organizations, businesses, residents, cultural institutions, Tribal partners, and federal and state agencies.

The 30-day comment period for the Northern Neck National Heritage Area Management Plan will extend from September 8, 2026, to October 12, 2026.
